For the 2009 dinner our guest speakers will be:

John Barclay - Guest SpeakerJohn Barclay - Director of Cricket and Coaching, Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation

John Barclay is a member of the MCC Committee and for five years chaired the E.C.B. Cricket Coaches Association. Today, he is Chairman of the Cricket Committee and the Sussex Cricket Board at Sussex County Cricket Club and President of the English Schools Cricket Association. The majority of his time, however, is spent at Arundel where he is Director of Cricket and Coaching for the Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation. He is able to give young people from all parts of the country, some of them disabled or partially-sighted and most of them from inner city areas, the chance to broaden their education and enhance their lives through cricket and coaching. To date, more than 250,000 youngsters have benefited from the scheme.

John is a renowned after dinner speaker and has led many seminars and discussion groups in leadership, teamwork and management, always taken from his own personal experiences as a player/manager and coach.

Roger Johnson - Sports Presenter, BBC South

Roger JohnsonRoger Johnson is BBC South Today's Sports Presenter and has been with them since 1997. During that time, Roger has covered most of the big sports stories in the south. Two of his personal highlights have been covering Dame Ellen MacArthur's record breaking sailing performances, and presenting a regional half hour programme from the Match of the Day studio in the Millennium Stadium when Southampton reached the 2003 FA Cup Final. An excellent speaker last time round, we are delighted to announce his return as our MC for the evening.



Jed Stone - Comedian

Jed Stone with George BestJed Stone has performed at dinners with some of the best known names in sport. Sporting legends such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Gary Sobers, Sir Henry Cooper, George Best (pictured), Sugar Ray Leonard...the list goes on! Extremely well received, it is great news for us to indroduce his comedic talent for the night.

Last time round, there was a general rugby theme with special guests Gareth Chilcott and Ian Robertson.

Gareth Chilcott - England and British Lions Gareth Chilcott

Gareth Chilcott (nickname Coochy!) became one of the best known players of the 1980's during which time he represented Bath on over 400 occasions, England 14 times (including the 1987 world cup) and was selected for the 1989 Lions tour to Australia. Since retiring from playing, Gareth has made a name for himself as a very successful after dinner speaker and hosts countless rugby tours all over the world during his day job with Gullivers Sports

 

Ian Robertson - Scotland, Barbarians and BBC Presenter

Ian RobertsonIan Robertson's rugby career was cut short by injury, but he had already won a Cambridge Blue, played for the Barbarians, been appointed vice captain of Scotland and represented his country on 8 occasions. Since retiring, Ian has covered a number of sports as a reporter, but in particular has made his name as the BBC's Rugby Correspondent and as an after dinner speaker. Ian's supreme commentary skills were showcased when he commented on THAT drop kick in the 2003 World Cup Final!
